They say that one should not read for oneself, but there is a good reason why they say that.
The straightforward reason is that when a Tarot reader reads cards for him/her self, then he/she is totally not having a proper perspective towards the reading. I mean, as a human being you are expecting or looking for or wanting a particular outcome. If you don’t get this outcome, then you often end up picking up the cards and doing another shuffle and spread scenario. In this case, you are not being honest and detached in the reading. This is not a great sin or something – we all have done this at some point of time or the other.
You will also notice that when you end up doing this again and again, some cards still tend to pop up into your reading. Ever wonder why?
Your cards are trying to tell you the answer, but since you are looking for what you are looking, you tend to re-boot the reading and start again.
So, what you need to keep in mind is that when you do a spread, you have to be detached from the reading. You will not always get the cards you want to see in your reading, and then you may want to re-do the reading. You have to be detached. That is where most people get confused when they read the cards for themselves. They want to see something, and when they don’t see the outcome they want, they want to re-do the spread. Be objective.
This is the genuine reason why they say that one should not read for oneself.
However if you are able to keep things in the right perspective and be detached and try to see the guidance that the cards are giving, then you can certainly do readings for yourself. There is nothing stopping you…except for yourself.
This whole process is easier said than done. How does one keep a detached perspective? Here are some good ways of doing this:
- Try to think of yourself as another person and then do the reading.
- Some people on the net even suggest keeping a teddy bear for your self and doing a reading.
- Try to be as un-involved in the reading. Writing down your reading in your journal helps you maintain this un-involved-ness.
Writing down the cards you pulled out in your journal helps you see the cards’ guidance in front of you in black and white. See if it makes sense to you. Try and put that guidance into practice so that you can change or alter certain outcomes if that is what you want. Alternatively, if there is something good on its way to you, make sure you are in a place to receive the blessings.
Writing down the readings also helps you see whether your predictions for yourself came true or not – you can refer back to these readings at a later date. This will develop perfection in your readings, and will also enhance your card interpretation skills.
Another thing about reading for yourself is that you shouldn’t do elaborate readings for yourself everyday. Card readings have a timeframe, and by doing elaborate readings for yourself every two-three days, you will confuse yourself and the cards. And then you will get confused readings.
For everyday guidance pull out one or three cards. This is simpler and more straightforward.
