When you begin reading Tarot cards for anyone, it is extremely important to open the reading. Similarly, it is equally important to close the reading, once it is over.
Let me explain why. When doing a reading, the reader is essentially ‘dialing-in’ into the universal consciousness to access intuitive information. The Tarot cards, therefore, become an essential tool for the interpretation of the energies that the reader taps into. It is through the doorway of the cards, that the reader gets in touch with these specific energies, and gains an understanding of the meanings of those cards in that reading.
So, naturally, the reader needs to meditate before beginning the reading. When I meditate, I usually say a prayer. It is more of a combination of asking the universe for permission to access the information (you have to be polite!), and then making a statement of purpose of the reading, and making an affirmation (this is more for myself) that I will read the cards without any personal bias.
I encourage each student of mine to formulate their own prayer based on their take on the situation that they would be undergoing while doing the reading. I generally tend to get involved into the querent’s feelings being empathetic, hence my affirmation. But another reader may have other issues.
You can even ask the cards to point out what your issues are while doing readings, so that you can get a clearer picture, if you are confused as a beginner.
During the reading, it is essential to remain ‘logged in’ to the universal consciousness. Therefore it makes sense to advise the clients to save the long discussions for either before or after the reading. Otherwise, the reader has to keep on re-establishing the connection – and this can be quite a drain.
After the reading is over, it is just as necessary, therefore to end the connection. I generally thank the universe for the permission and information, and thank the energies that have come to help me with the reading. And then I set the energies free – to go back to where they came from.
I also make it a habit to wash my hands, feet and face with running, cold water to ensure that no energy remains stuck on to me.
In case you still feel drained and tired, try keeping a candle or incense burning whilst reading cards. That helps. Crystals can also help some readers in the same way.
If the feeling of heaviness still persists, take a basin of cold water and mix in some rock salt or regular salt. Dip your feet into the basin, and keep them there for a while. This helps ground you.
The whole point is showing respect for the energies and the gifts that you have received from Nature. Be grateful for having received them. Be generous while sharing them. And be practical while using them.
